The Secrets to Drinking More Water
You can NOT be serious man…did you see what happened yesterday?
Not the tennis at Wimbledon, although that was great, but I’m talking about the…
ANTS?
Man, there were millions of the little blighters flying around…did you see them?
We first saw them as we walked into my local Waitrose, my Mum and I
then the professional tennis players at Wimbledon started performing ninja chops on court in between shots… most weird
they too had the
ANTS.
Apparently it was “Flying Ant Day”
I mean…who knew? Did you know a flying ant day even existed in the annual calendar?
You live and learn right?
Still, watching the tennis, which I love to do every year with my Mum, was
as ever,
inspiring.
More so yesterday with the 30 degree temperatures, it must have been tough for those players out there.
Do you know their secret for performing well at these high temperatures?
Fluids.
That’s the key when it’s hot. Each player, if you watched, drank loads.
We should too. Even if you’re not pushing yourself as hard as they are physically, when it’s hot it’s SO important to drink plenty…
of water,
Pimms doesn’t count here, I REPEAT Pimms does NOT count here!
The standard recommendation is that women drink 1.6 liters of fluids a day and men drink 2 liters a day. Children aged 4-8 years should drink 1,280 milliliters a day
(pregnant women need 1.6 litres + 300ml and lacttating women need 1.6 litres +600-700ml a day)
I know, I’m rubbish at drinking enough too, but I have a cool hack for drinking enough water each day…
And as we’re friends I’ll let you in on my secret.
Get yourself a 2 liter, clear bottle.
Use a Sharpie to mark off even lines on the side of the bottle, add to these lines the time of the day and get drinking.
Your goal is to reach the line by the listed time. So for 11 AM, you want the water level to be down to that line at that time.
I start drinking water as soon as I wake up and don’t eat breakfast until I’ve had my first glass of water. If I have coffee with my breakfast, I just make sure I drink my water first.
The same at lunch, I don’t eat it until I’ve drank to the right time line, then the same at dinner.
Give it a go..it works. Another hack for me to drink more is if I decant my water into a cup with a straw, for some reason I drink more through a straw…
If I drink enough fluids in a day I certainly see a difference, I have more energy, feel better and feel less likely to overeat as I’m fully hydrated.
It’s great for your complexion too.
Apparently, the ‘crackles around my eyes” as my children affectionately call them are looking better…they were just curious this evening as to what I kept in the bags underneath…?!
Brilliant…I’ll keep drinking,
Water, mainly water…
Cheers!

Ideas to jazz up your water:
- Fruit – Slice it up and toss it in. Try different fruits or even different combinations of fruit. Try cucumbers, lemons, limes, oranges, strawberries, raspberries… and the list goes on.
- Mint – Try adding a few mint leaves to your water. It will give it a refreshing twist.
- Ice – Fill an ice tray with your favorite fruit (mine is raspberries) add water and put it in the freezer. When the cubes have frozen try adding a couple to your water for a hint of flavor.
